The key to managing family time and work time is maintaining a careful schedule. This is the only way you’ll manage to get on top of your life. While tossing around a million different schedules and activities can be a little overwhelming at times, there are ways to make it work. You don’t need to up your stress levels, you simply need to find a way to maneuver your balance and to again, make it work.

Following these simple rules or guidelines will help you out. You’ll be able to manage your schedule and your family’s schedule without too much fuss. You’ll finally be able to relish your time together.

All you really need is to sit down and do some planning.

First thing’s first. Get organized by getting a calendar. Use a large paper calendar that your whole family can see, and complement it using online calendars or applications such as Google Calendar. Remember that all busy head executives and business men stay on track by jotting things down, they have planners. You’ve got to simply get to task.

A good idea is to purchase a calendar or you can use online apps or even your cell phone or PDA. Gather important dates such as recitals, soccer practices, PTA meetings, doctor’s appointments, dental check ups and the like. Write them all done. Consider organizing your calendar with colors for each name. Remember to record the who, what, when and where of each task.

Always be thinking ahead. Sometimes your schedule can become overly hectic. Compensate for those especially harried days by scheduling in activities and important dates well before hand. Check your calendar each morning so you don’t forget anything. Use online apps to remind you.

Check your schedule each morning to refresh your mind. Also, think about using your weekends to plan the week ahead. This way you get a head start and don’t have to do everything Monday morning or during the week.

Distribute duties. Sometimes, parents have to share the workload. If one parent is doing one task, think about switching it up. Strategize, look at ways that you can shift priorities or duties and make things work that way. You could even recruit other family members or friends if you need extra help.

Don’t forget to consider what’s important and what’s not. That’s called prioritizing. Learn to do that.

Give yourself a break. All families need time to simply relax.
